Welcome to the neighborhood! Moving to a new area like Vanagaram can be a bit of a whirlwind, especially when you’re trying to figure out the school run and where to grab groceries at the same time.
If you’ve recently enrolled your little one at Kidzee Vanagaram (located right in the heart of Dhanalakshmi Nagar), you’re actually in a pretty convenient spot. To help you get your bearings, I’ve put together a list of five key landmarks nearby that every new resident should know about. These aren't just "tourist spots"—they’re the practical and local anchors of life in this part of Chennai.
This is probably the most significant landmark in the area. Located just a short drive from Kidzee Vanagaram, it’s a massive facility that people travel from all over the city to visit. For us residents, it’s a huge peace-of-mind factor. If you ever need to give directions to your house, just telling people "near Vanagaram Apollo" usually does 90% of the work.

Even if you aren't particularly religious, this temple is a beautiful local landmark. It's tucked away in the Odamanagar area (very close to Kidzee) and is known for its peaceful atmosphere and unique architecture. It’s a great spot for a quiet morning walk or to simply experience the local culture of the neighborhood.
Need a weekend break? You don’t have to drive all the way to Nungambakkam or Anna Nagar for a movie. The AGS Cinemas at the Maduravoyal junction is the go-to entertainment spot for everyone in Vanagaram. It's modern, well-maintained, and surrounded by several small eateries and shops, making it a perfect family outing spot.
Just a stone's throw away is Porur Lake. While it’s technically a reservoir, the bypass road running alongside it offers some of the best sunset views in the city. For new residents, the "Porur Toll Plaza" and the lake area serve as the gateway connecting Vanagaram to the rest of South Chennai. It’s a great mental marker for where the neighborhood ends and the city-proper begins.
Vanagaram is growing incredibly fast. While the main Poonamallee High Road is always bustling, the interior streets like Dhanalakshmi Nagar (where Kidzee is) are much quieter. My advice? Spend a Sunday morning driving through the backroads connecting Vanagaram to Maduravoyal—you’ll find some hidden gem grocery stores and parks that Google Maps might miss!
